Leeds DAB Radio is a partnership between Fever 107.3FM, Dee Radio Group and Niocast Digital. The company has been formed to apply for the licence to bring small-scale DAB digital radio to the city of Leeds.
Fever is the biggest Asian broadcasting platform in Leeds. The station was founded by current CEO and lifelong radio fan Jabbar Karim, who grew up in Leeds and has been a high-profile champion of the city's south Asian communities for more than 30 years. Awarded an FM broadcast licence by Ofcom in 2005, Fever is now embracing DAB as a means of forging even closer links with the communities excluded by mainstream media.
Dee Radio Group operates successful, locally-focused radio stations in Cheshire, regional music genre stations in Manchester and Liverpool and a local multiplex. It is run by former Wireless Group Local Radio MD, Chris Hurst, who knows the west Yorkshire region well through his many years of involvement with The Pulse in Bradford.
Niocast Digital operates the small-scale DAB multiplex in Manchester, one of ten across the UK taking part in a national trial of the new system. Having also run successful trials in Dublin and Cork, Niocast is one of the most experienced operators of small-scale DAB.
